Dear MAILER-DAEMON

As system administrator and postmaster for a major ISP, I have to wade through quite a bit of email every day. Most mail to postmaster is pretty boring, but every once in a while I'll get something that really brightens my day. This usually comes in the form of a clueless user responding to a bounced mail notification as though it was sent to them by a human. The first time, I figured it was just an isolated incident, but as time wore on, I started receiving similar mail every month or two. These messages so amuse my sysadmin friends that I figured I'd share them with the web at large. I've changed the names to protect the incompetent, of course.

Here, now, is the little composition I've entitled Dear MAILER-DAEMON.

Mail delivery subsystem. I do not understand how the
SomeoneOrOther@gte.net has permanent fatal errors. The short messages
go through; the long ones do not. It takes quite awhile to retype those
long messages.

Are you saying none of the messages were delivered or just Janet's was
not. These are all OurCompany employees and their addresses came from
the e mail pop ups

P.S.: We suspect the men in white coats had to carry off Idiot 6

Dave Burchell ponders:

I can't help but wonder, do you think this guy has one of those talking cars? Imagine the dialogue:

Car: "The door is ajar."

Idiot 6: "What?! A door is a door! There are no jars anywhere around here! We're in the middle of the Best Buy parking lot, for crimminy sakes!"

Car: "The door is ajar."

Idiot 6: "Would you quit saying these stupid things! I have no idea what you are talking about. Shut up, idiot car! Aaaarrrggg!"

[Loud crashing sound as car hits a light pole.]

Oh well, he probably has bitter disputes with his toaster as well.
