Flatlanders Jeep Club Meeting, 14 March 1999 near Manhattan, KS

The big excitement of the meeting happened when Staci Edwards pulled up in his pickup towing the club’s newly-completed RTI ramp. After voting on some by-law amendments and announcing that the 2nd annual 4×4 Fest was on after all (we’d finally found affordable insurance for the event), we all rushed outside to drool over the new ramp.

Nine vehicles made a run up the 30-degree ramp, with varying results.  They were:

Not a very impressive showing for the mostly-stock YJs, was it? In their defense, the CJs all had varying degrees of lift, and both TJs were heavily built.

Once the excitement wore off, we headed up to the ORV park to do some wheeling. The day started off bad when a CJ-7 bounced its fan into the radiator on the access road, spilling its coolant and forcing its driver to find a passenger seat for the day’s wheeling.

Despite all the snow that the area had supposedly gotten in the previous 48 hours, the ground was fairly dry. There was still enough mud to make parts of it interesting and keep the snatch straps from feeling neglected.

MORE TO COME (maybe)…
